It's so fun to watch this little cutie as he gets bigger and reaches all of his developmental milestones in his first year. I can't wait for his cake smash session for his birthday in a few months! This year has flown by capturing this handsome little man!

I love a good concert and make it an outdoor venue on a beautiful day/night and some amazing talent and great photos.... excellent combination! I had such an amazing time photographing this concert this summer. I got to meet and hear some great up and coming artists, as well as some musicians that have had #1 hits. Tons of energy, tons of fun, loads of talent! Stacy Stone opened the show and you could just tell she was having fun with her bandmates and really rocking out! It was 105 degrees outside but her show was cool! She is a Northern California native and really making a name for herself in country music. If you haven't checked her out yet, it's time you do!

Next up was the Dave Russell Band. They rocked the house and kept smiles on everyone's faces. Backstage they were gracious and so nice to talk to. Hopefully you were lucky enough to catch them one of the nights they played after this at the California State Fair! Head over to his website and learn more about him. He's a great musician and we are going to be hearing big things from him in the near future. I was so happy to get to meet these artists on their rise to super stardom!

Big Thanks to Stacy and Dave. I enjoyed meeting you, working with you and listening to your music. Can't wait to work with you again :)

More on this concert series in the next blog with Steve Holly and Brett Eldredge.. Stay tuned...

Sofia and Travis

I love capturing love in front of my lens! So shooting Sofia and Travis is a no brainer. Their love shines through straight into their images. As return clients we have shot now in different seasons getting great images each time. This was their session from Fall but as I looked back through some of my older pictures last night I decided I had to make a blog about this session.
It was their one year wedding anniversary and I wish I could have shown you more of the great images we got that day! We got some beautiful shots in their neighborhood and one of my favorite shots of the day was against a random building! It's fun working with such a beautiful couple inside and out. I can't wait for our next adventure guys!

Sweet & Sassy Ramones

Sweet and Sassy just doesn't do this sweet family justice! But it was the best way to describe the kids on this fun Spring evening.
I was fortunate enough to meet this family through a great promotion I ran for first time clients. I spoke with Susan for a few weeks via email and phone while we decided on a location for the session. We chose somewhere they hadn't been before, which for me is always fun. The kids get to discover something new and explore with me. Brings out their curiosity and just a lot of fun! Plus it's another place now they can add to take the kids for a fun family picnic or day out.
I found a cute clearing at the top of a hill for pics of the whole gang. This is usually where I can get to know each one of their personalities and with this group it was a great surprise! They were all so full of life. Well Tucker was a little less excited but he still was a great addition to the session, I love when families include their furry family members in sessions, especially when they're as well behaved as he was! We did some silly ones with Mom and Dad and the kids and then I just let the kids run and be free. Hence the nature of my lifestyle photography. I like to capture them, their true selves. Big brother and little sister had so much fun showing me their silly, sassy and sweet sides that it literally took me hours to decide which pictures to put on the blog today! Their sweet daughter had pose after pose ready for me at every turn while their adorable son brought out his personality in more subtle ways, equally as cute! I can't believe how lucky I am to do what I do, that I get blessed to spend my time away from my own kids, with sweet people like this. Thanks to this special family for being so much fun and keeping me inspired! <3

Spotlight on a local Author

I love supporting local businesses, I love supporting the arts... so to support both in one is amazing! A special thank you to Jermaine McIntyre and family for allowing me to take a ride on this amazing journey they're on in this new chapter in their lives as a local author of an incredible children's book.  I have been fortunate enough to know Jermaine's wife, literally my entire life. Heather is an amazing woman that I looked up to as a kid. So sharing in this exciting time with them as Benny The Bully gets out there is an honor.

Jermaine grew up in Sacramento and met his wife in 1996. They have two amazing daughters that keep them busy! Jermaine had been wanting to write this story for awhile when one day destiny stepped in. His youngest daughter started her first day at a new school and was bullied. This prompted him to really get started on this book. You can find out more about his journey and story at his website Benny The Bully .

When the McIntyre's contacted me to do the photo session for press for this book I was beyond excited and we really wanted to find a LOCAL spot with meaning for the photo shoot. We decided on the State Capitol as it's the most iconic place in Sacramento as well as having beautiful and unique grounds for lots of variety in the shots (did I mention it was spring and the light was beautiful??).  We met in early evening and got started. I had a good time walking around and just catching up with the family and hearing more about Jermaine's journey in writing this amazing children's book, along with capturing some great shots!

Jermaine has been doing some public speaking about his book and the hot topic of bullying in our local community a lot lately. He is not only donating his time to teach kids about bullying and how it can be overcome in a positive way, he is also donating portions of the proceeds from his book back to our community! I hope everyone picks up a copy of this book and shares it with their kids and local schools so we can get the message out there. You can purchase the book here for less than $10 Buy Benny The Bully

I am also going to over ANY client that shows proof of purchase of this book a 20% discount on their photo session!!! So please support your local businesses, your local artists and let's help to share this important message of anti bullying for our youth.

Thanks for following in this journey with me too...I appreciate the support and promise next time it won't take so long for the next blog!!

First blog : Session info

Hey all welcome to my blog! We're going to try this out :) Let's see how it goes. So people are always asking me what a session is like so my first blog is going to be to describe how I run my sessions.

I arrive typically 15-30 minutes prior to our start time to adjust my camera, get things set up if it's a specialized shoot and to just get ready as with natural light things are changing every minute.

I bring my ipod typically to have some fun music for the kiddos or even couples and always recommend you bringing yours too, it can be a lot of fun!  I go over what you are looking for again with you and what I'm planning to get (who will be in shots, etc. I strive to NEVER have a client walk away wishing they'd have gotten a shot that we didn't).  I will tell you now, my goal is always (clients willing) to get every combination of the people.

Let's take a family of 4 for example (Mom, Dad, Son, Daughter). I will get family shots of all 4 of course and then I will get shots of just Mom with the kids, then Dad with the kids. Mom with each child individually, Dad with each child individually, Mom and Dad, each kid individually, just the two kids. All the combinations :)

With little kids I always give them "Wiggle" breaks and have them be my helper if they want. I have no problem letting a little one help me take some pictures to warm them up and get them excited. I'm above all else a Mom to 4 amazing kids, an 11 year old, 3.5 year old twins and a 6 month old. On top of this I am a semester away from having my credential so I definitely understand children and working with them :)

With newborn and birth sessions I schedule for a few hours for the sessions. I basically am on-call for birth photos and think it is an amazing thing to be a part of. Newborn sessions we are all at the mercy of the little one but I ask that the house be warm for them, they be fed right before I get there. But I'm more than accommodating for their schedules, there will be nap, feeding and changing breaks guaranteed.

With engagements I ask couples to bring things that are fun for them, I've had couples bring board games, their horses, anything that has to do with their interests. Pinterest is a great resource for ideas if you are looking for something fun and different for your engagement pics!

Weddings are a lot of fun as I love to capture love in my lens! I have a few fellow photographers that I use as second shooters that are reliable and amazing! I like to have my second shooters get a few key shots so that we are getting them from both angles (bride walking down the aisle for example) and also so they can focus a lot more on the guests reactions while I focus primarily on the couple at hand. On your wedding day I want to be in the background. I help anywhere I can in transitioning the events in a timely manner so we get all the shots you need/want for your big day.

Seniors are fun sessions because they really get to express who they are at this special time in their lives! I like finding new places to shoot these sessions based on their interests. Football fields, tracks, riding trails, etc.

Events for me are special whether it's a wedding day, baptism, adoption, etc. I love capturing all these special times for your family at an affordable rate and in a stress free way.

I have many references for each type of session and am more than happy to share their info with you or you can read my website  testimonials  to see for yourselves as well :) Look forward to taking this adventure with you and seeing where it takes us!

Take care and keep smiling,
Kim
